IRIS RETICULATA, a little beauty early in spring, is in full bloom right now. Even though it's only 6-8" tall, it provides some showy color in the early spring bed. It has many assets: It multiplies each year, they are very hardy, their little rhizomes are easy to plant, and they are virtually carefree in maintenance. Their leaves disappear after they have bloomed; so leave them until they yellow, or disappear for wonderful blooms next year. I mark where I have them planted in the beds so I won't disturb them during the year. When I left yesterday morning, no blooms were out, but after returning in the afternoon, they were in full bloom! They look so pretty throughout the upper bed. I love these little bloomers!
