A welcome sight in the garden--KATYDIDS! Even though their numbers have been very few in the last several years, I occasionally see one or two each year. This year I've seen three--(hopefully there have been three--or just the same one in different spots in the yard). Their leaf-like bodies blend in nicely with the green foliage on your plants--their camouflage helps protect them from birds or other predators. They are very beneficial in the garden, eating insect pests--and should not be destroyed, just like their cousin, the preying mantis. At night if you listen, you can hear the"clicking" noise that they make with their wings. I always look forward to seeing these wonderful green insects!
