Memorial Day in the top of Utah usually brings lots of iris blooms--they're usually at peak time for that day. This year, the arrangements consisted of tall bearded irises in purples and peaches for my dad, D.L. Holland. He loved the fall colors of oranges, browns and apricots, and also loved dark, bright purples. Our son, Cade, who was just a baby when he passed away, had an arrangement consisting of blues of many hues--from light blue to bright, dark blue, and three different shades of blue/purple lupine. I arrange them early in the morning or after the sun has gone down the night before, using a floral preservative to keep them fresh for the longest time possible. I use a metal cone vase that has a metal plant stick so it's easy to push into the ground. When arranging and transporting, I place the cone in a big vase to keep steady until I get to the cemetery. Keep watered, as they can dry out fast.
