SINGLE LATE TULIPS -- "Blushing Beauty"-- Tall, beautiful, and long-lasting in arrangements

The tall, stately 30" + blooms of "BLUSHING BEAUTY," a single late tulip, increases in size and beauty each year. The bulbs produce vigorous, strong stems which are perfect for the vase.

The blooms open up to 8" or more across and they will command attention in any garden.  I love some of the mutated blooms, as you can see in the photo. Each year the same marbled pattern appears on the same bulbs.

This year I've had some that are well over 30 inches--approaching 36-38".  Another feature that makes them so desirable is that they return each year, bigger and stronger, not diminishing like some other varieties. I highly recommend this tulip. It can be found online at bulb specialty catalogs.

SPRING TREE PEONY BLOOMS WITH SINGLE LATE TULIPS - A romantic color palette

The first blooms of romantic tree peony blooms, paired with the delicate colors of a variety of single late tulips make this arrangement of April 19th an eye-pleaser.  The peony blooms, when fully open, can be as large as 8-10" across.  Pink and white-colored lupine finish the arrangement off. Peonies used are light pink "Yoshina-Gawa," white  "Sugared Silk," and red "Shimi-Nishiki."

As always, choose flowers that are in the bud stage, or close to it.  Harvest blooms before the sun comes up, or after dusk in the early evening, after the sun has gone down.  I always immediately plunge the cut stems in cool water.  When ready to arrange, cut an additional 1-inch off stem under water.  This unseals the stem end so water can continue to travel up the stem to give water to the bloom.  Arrange, and keep in a cool, dry, dark place until ready to use.  Change water every other day if possible.

SINGLE LATE TULIPS

I love the long-lasting quality, both in vase and garden, of the single late tulips.Their 30" height makes them stand out in the garden beds, and their giant blooms, when fully open, are up to 6-7" across. They are held on strong stems. Shown here after high winds, the stems straightened right up. Pictured here are Blushing Beauty, Perystroyka and Temple of Beauty.

SPRING ARRANGEMENT OF BLUSHING BEAUTY, SINGLE LATE TULIP

BLUSHING BEAUTY is a SINGLE LATE TULIP.  This class of tulips incorporates Darwin Tulips and Cottage Tulips. Commonly known as Mayflowering tulips, the single late class is probably the most popular group due to their consistent and reliable performance for both cutting and mass plantings.  Blooms are shapely, large, and tall, these topping a 32" + height.  When opened up, they can reach up to 7 inches in diameter.  I also like their delicate color when they fade--simple beautiful.  They are long-lasting in the garden and in the vase. The bulbs also keep their vigor, providing large, tall blooms for years.
