THE FIRST TREE PEONY BLOOM OF THE 2011 SEASON

The first bloom of the several TREE PEONIES that I have bloomed yesterday!  This particular one, SHIMA-NISHIKI, is a big, beautiful crepe paper-like bloom, in crimson red.  It looks to be about 7" across, with a bright yellow tufted center.  It's the first bloom for this plant, and has only this one bloom on it, so I will make sure to enjoy it.  The others have their buds, and should be blooming within a week, providing there are some sunny days, which are forecast not until Thursday.  Tree peonies, with their deeply cut, grayish green leaves, that are attractive all season long, are one of my very favorites!  I have waited  three long years for these blooms--but the wait was WELL WORTH it!
