HERBACEOUS, TREE AND INTERSECTIONAL PEONIES


TREE PEONIES

  • Woody, deciduous shrub-like trees
  • Large, 8-10' fragrant blooms
  • Drought and cold hardy in zones 4-9
  • Need well-drained soil
  • Minimum of 6 hours of sun a day
  • Long-lived, some in China are over 400 years old 
















HERBACEOUS PEONIES
  • Extremely hardy, zones 3-8
  • easy to grow; long-lived and carefree
  • Blooms usually 5-8" across
  • Full sun, well drained soil
  • Can be transplanted when in dormancy Fall or early spring




















INTERSECTIONAL PEONIES
  • Cross between Herbaceous and Tree peony
  • Leaves and flowers resemble tree peonies
  • Growth habit is similar to herbaceous peonies
  • Thrive in zones 4-9
  • Same soil and fertilization requirements as other types of peonies
  • Cut back to the ground in the fall
