THE END OF THE IRIS SEASON IS APPROACHING FAST


The TALL BEARDED IRIS season here in Northern Utah is drawing to a close.  I only have 2 more iris left to bloom.  Out of 189 iris, I had 60 that didn't bloom this year.  Although that's disappointing, I, on the other hand, had 129 that did!  Many of the non-bloomers were first-year iris.  I've read where there is a 60% chance that a first year iris may not bloom; I have been fortunate--most of mine have bloomed in their first year.  We also had a freezing cold snap early spring--coupled with an extra arid winter and spring--it has affected the plants--tulips, daffodils, iris, and also lupines weren't as prolific as usual.  However, the various color-coded beds still had a lot of color, and I can't complain too much.  Here's a look at some of the iris this season:
